About Congregational churches
Congregational churches descend from the English Puritans who settled New England, and take their name from their conviction that each congregation governs itself under Christ without bishops or presbyteries. Worship is typically simple and centred on scripture and the sermon, often in a historic meeting house. Many belong to associations such as the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches or the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference.
